DELIVERING THE BLACKTIP SHARK TO THE PRIMORSKY OCEANARIUM
31/05/2021
Recently, the Moscow Cargo team took part in the shipment of a blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus) from Moscow to Vladivostok to one of the world's leading research centers - Primorsky Oceanarium.
Handling live "cargo" always requires special attention from the handling operator, since each animal needs an individual approach. A number of factors should always be taken into consideration: weather conditions, temperature differences, special and customer requirements.
Transportation of sea inhabitants is carried out, as a rule, in special sealed shipping tanks, the water in which must be saturated with oxygen for the entire journey.
Transportation of sharks has its own difficulties due to characteristics of the species. Sharks have very high metabolic rate, so they need to move all the time. The phrase "movement is life" in relation to sharks has a literal meaning: if you do not let it move, the shark will die. Accordingly, the transportation should be as smooth and fast as possible. According to world standards, travel time of up to 20 hours is considered optimal for sharks, which imposes great responsibility on the handling operator to organize the fastest possible completion of all pre-flight procedures and to ensure express build-up for the flight.
According to the customer - the largest specialized aquarium salon "Aqua Logo" - the shark has perfectly endured the transportation and is currently adapting in the oceanarium.
